Actor's Lab In the Park
Oh how I wish I had my camera for today's adventure. Ms. Nerken was given permission to hold our Actor's Lab class out in Madison Square Park this afternoon. Talk about stunning weather - blue skies, fresh air, cool breezes... Tons of people out walking there dogs, playing with their kids, reading books... Great way to end the week and a perfect start to Spring Break!
This is the circle we held class in...

Dead People for Meisner
Today's Meisner class was very different; John spent the past few weeks stressing this day's importance.
As soon as class started, we set the chairs up in sort of a three-quarter circle in the middle of the room with John seated out to the side. He instructed us to begin preparing on the first Spoon River monologue of our choice. The idea was that we were all dead and were now with these strangers in a strange room. Each monologue was the most important thought that was taken to the grave with us. Once we were all preped up with emotion, he pointed to a person to start the exercise - me. Everyone in the circle stayed connected and focused on each other, listening "like an animal in the forrest." Once one person was over, someone else would respond using one of their monologues. We never stopped or hesitated. The lesson lasted an hour and a half. And talk about a roller coaster of emotions! One moment everyone was laughing and giggling at each other; the next moment, girls were crying and guys sat sunken into their seats. Everyone got something different from the exercise, and John was left very pleased.
For Voice, we received feedback on our Hamlet midterms we performed last week. Eileen gave me several excellent comments and claimed I have transformed from the quirky actor who's moved to New York into a "sexy, young leading-man"...! I think it's the hair.

First Hours As an Intern
The day went as scheduled with Meisner in the morning and Voice an hour afterwards. While the Spoon River work was a tad stressful for the morning hours, the Hamlet midterms performed in Voice were an absolute blast to watch (and perform)! Everyone was very successful in discovering unique ways to express the scene. We'll be getting notes from Eileen next week.
After classes, Ben and I attended the rehearsals for The Dutchess, directed by Eileen and featuring the theatre year students at the school. We got to watch how the rehearsals run and listen to the songs that will be used for the show. Ben and I will be collaborating on the sound work and putting together a CD for Eileen to use, complete with fade-ins, fade-outs, cross-fades, etc. Fun stuff!

Trader Joe's and Hamlet
Sunday's weather was SO perfect, I made it a priority to head out to Trader Joe's for some food (specifically oatmeal)...
Afterwards, Lauren and I strolled on over to Cadman Plaza park to rehearse our Hamlet scene. Our goal as actors: to better understand Hamlet and Ophelia and how they would react to one another in close-up, midshot and longshot.
Our goal as students in a park: to get as many people to look at us as possible.
I think we accomplished both.
